This innovative partnership between Tuscany's Marchesi Antinori and Washington's Chateau Ste. Michelle is best known for the sublime Red Mountain cabernet sauvignon it produces each year, bringing Old World craftsmanship to the New World. The tasting room at its state-of-the-art Red Mountain winery (pictured above) offers samples of its flagship wine along with pleasant surprises that include tastes of its second-label Shining Hill red blend, a house-made grappa (for an extra fee) and, in spring, a limited-production rosé. The winery also offers a 2-hour tour that culminates with a food-paired tasting.

The name stems from founder Charlie Hoppes' fidelity to Bordeaux-style wines. Once the head red winemaker for Chateau Ste. Michelle, Hoppes produces elegant blends and varietals with grapes from his own Red Mountain vineyards, with some fruit sourced from quality neighboring sites. The white wines tend to reflect warm-weather flavor profiles (think tropical fruits), while the reds capture the intensity of Red Mountain. Table service in the tasting room, where floor-to-ceiling windows overlook surrounding vineyards, allows you to savor the wines at a relaxed pace, while drinking in the scenery.
